The ALA Political Action Committee (PAC) serves as an effective and beneficial entity for the industry by placing ALA in an influential position within Washington, D.C. As of October 2008, the ALA PAC has received more than $40,000 from 105 member contributors, surpassing its contribution goals.

Money raised for the PAC goes toward targeted campaign contributions to members of Congress positioned to support the lighting industry. A small balance is retained in the PAC fund in the event an issue develops requiring some sort of action.

Current lighting industry champions and contributions received from the ALA-PAC:

Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) $5,000
Rep. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) $5,000
Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) $3,000
Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA) $3,000
Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) $5,000
Representative Fred Upton (R-MI) $2,000
Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) $3,000

PAC champions have assisted the ALA in several legislative issues in recent years, including energy efficiency/incandescent bulb restrictions; removal of anti-trust immunity from the National Classification Committee by the Surface Transportation Board; and the pursuit of association health plans.

The ALA PAC is supplemental to, yet separate from, the Government Affairs Committee. All activities of the ALA PAC are transparent, and all funds raised for PAC contributions are segregated in a separate bank account.

If you are interested in contributing to the PAC you must first sign and return a Permission to Contact form. The law requires all businesses to have signed permission from an individual before contacting that person to request support.
