Anderson and Swanson welcomed into Lighting Hall of Fame
Two longtime industry veterans were inducted into the esteemed Lighting Hall of Fame at the American Lighting Association's 2006 Annual Conference held at Wynn Las Vegas Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.
Dennis Swanson, owner and CEO of Lamps Plus, founded the specialty lighting chain with his wife, Manja, 30 years ago. Under his leadership, the family-run Lamps Plus has become the nation's largest specialty lighting retailer, with two million customers each year and more than 40 superstores throughout the western United States. Swanson is a former chairman of the ALA Board of Governors and has chaired the ALA Public Relations Committee, which oversees the BiNational Advertising and Public Relations Program.
Judy Anderson began her career in 1969, working in the commercial lighting department of Englewood Electric Supply in Crystal Lake, Ill. She served on the ALA board and received the ALA Lighting Person of the Year Award in 1988 and 1992. She was instrumental in developing ALA's certification program, and assisted in the writing of the Residential Lighting Sales Training Course. In 1994, Anderson started J.A. Connections, which created a switching system for lighting showrooms called Optiwatt. In 1996, she moved to Colorado and became a lighting representative for Illumination Systems, Inc. where she remained until her retirement in 2003.
