The ALA Annual Conference provides the perfect opportunity to network with other lighting professionals, learn best practices, keep up with new technology and new regulations. Packed with informational seminars, interactive panels, networking and socializing, this event brings the residential lighting industry together for a three day working retreat. Specialized topics cover the concerns of manufacturers, retailers, sales reps, designers and associates alike.
The conference will begin with an orientation at 5:45pm on Sunday, September 10. It will conclude the night of Tuesday, September 12.
The Hyatt Regency is located in the vibrant downtown area. ALA members can enjoy the special group rate of $209CN (convert to US dollars
) per night for the first 1,260 nights booked. After those rooms are sold, the rate will increase to $229CN. (convert to US dollars

Guest registrations include access to all conference events except the break-out educational seminars and panels. The guest registration is intended for a travel companion who is not in the lighting business, and does not include these specialized lighting sessions. Guests do have access to all keynotes and all meals. (Optionally, you may purchase an a-la-carte ticket to any single event. For instance, many spouses or guests will get individual tickets for the opening night reception and the closing night dinner. The rest of the time, guests are free to explore Vancouver on their own. These individual tickets will be posted in the coming months.)
September 10, 10:30am - This year’s tournament is at the Furry Creek Golf Club
. Shotgun start is at 10:30. Busses will leave the hotel at 8:15am and 8:30am. As always, we will by playing a four-person scramble format, and there will be drink tickets, a boxed lunch and prizes. Rental clubs can be reserved through the course by calling 888-922-9462 or 604-896-2224. Cost for clubs is $52CN (limited availability), plus tax.
Bike Ride through Stanley Park
September 10, 1:30pm - Enjoy a scenic bike tour along the flat seawall of the bay and into a few hills of Stanley Park. There will be one guide for every twelve participants so groups can be formed by ability. Make sure to bring your camera! The ride will be held even if it is raining, so pack a windbreaker. All participants must wear a bike helmet (provided) and sign a waiver. This tour is limited to 48 people, so register early.
Non-Canadian citizens (including minors) will need a passport to travel to Vancouver, Canada. If you need a new or renewed passport, apply for it now. US Passport Office
Fly in to Vancouver International (YVR). Most attendees arrive on Sunday, September 10, in time for the evening reception. If you are golfing in the ALA pre-conference tournament, you will want to arrive on Saturday, September 9. The tournament begins on Sunday, September 10 at 10:30am. The closing dinner will end late on Tuesday, September 12, so most members choose to fly home on Wednesday, September 13.
YVR is 20-30 minutes from the hotel. Taxis and executive cars are available. Uber does not operate in Vancouver. Rental cars are not needed in the city but are a good option if you plan to go into the nearby mountains.

This is a no-tie conference. Social events are chic urban casual and daytime meetings and seminars are business casual.
Refunds and Changes
There is a $100 fee for any cancellation through Tuesday, June 27. After June 27, registrations are non-refundable. You can always transfer the registration to another attendee without penalty. Send refund requests to email@example.com.
